A Guide to Enable WhatsApp Security Code Alerts on iOS, Android, and Web

0

WhatsApp, an instant messaging app owned by Meta, has always been in the news for security concerns. However, the platform claims to offer end-to-end encryption protection for chats between users. According to Meta, encrypted messages are sent and received securely and are not read by WhatsApp. These end-to-end encrypted chats are protected by security codes, WhatsApp claims.

In order to secure user chats, WhatsApp claims to use a unique security code which is used to verify that calls and messages users send to this chat are end-to-end encrypted. These security codes are described as visible forms of special keys. In addition, WhatsApp users’ contact information displays the code in the form of a 60-digit number and a QR code.

Sometimes security codes may change due to reinstalling WhatsApp, changing phones, or deleting a paired device. Notably, users can turn on their security notifications to receive alerts whenever a contact’s device security code changes. Here are the steps for iOS, Desktop, and Android to enable these security code alerts.
