People in the Industry – Staff Updates at Bridgelux, Sonneman and FSC Lighting


LED technology developer Bridgelux (Fremont, Calif.) recently announced that its board of directors has named Intematix co-founder Yi-Qun Li as CEO, following the departure of former executive Tim Lester . Meanwhile, architectural lighting provider Sonneman (New York, NY) brings board director Andrew B. Cogan into the C-suite as CEO. FSC Lighting (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) made several key appointments, including former MaxLite executive Vincent Alonzi as president and CEO; Jim Hunter as senior vice president of sales and marketing; and Ariel Devore as marketing manager, working directly with Hunter on growth targets.

Bridgelux appoints phosphorus pioneer

First, Bridgelux’s new CEO, Yi-Qun Li, comes to the company with extensive experience in phosphorus technology innovation. Intematix is ​​well known in the LED and lighting industry for its phosphor developments, including patented Green Aluminate and Red Nitride formulations. Li holds a variety of US patents for technologies including LED phosphor compositions, remote phosphor structures, and LED devices. He has also held research positions at EMCORE and ATMI, and was a research professor at the Stevens Institute of Technology.

In recent years, Bridgelux has commercialized its F90 and Thrive technologies in surface mount devices and chip-on-board LEDs. The F90 LEDs leverage narrow band red phosphorus potassium fluorosilicate for high color rendering, while Thrive uses multiple wide blue emitters meant to match the spectrum of natural light. Li played a key role in both developments, according to Bridgelux’s announcement.

Sonneman selects Cogan as CEO

Moving on to finished lighting product businesses, Sonneman moved Andrew Cogan from the board to the CEO’s office. Sonneman co-founder and former CEO Sonny Park will become executive chairman and remain on the board.

The company cited Cogan’s decades of leadership experience in e-commerce, design and combining commercial and residential businesses at furniture designer Knoll, Inc. as key factors in the nomination.

Cogan also serves on the External Advisory Board for Harvard University’s Masters in Design Engineering program; is a director of the American Woodmark Corporation; and is president of The Rug Company.

FSC sheds light on senior executive changes

Finally, commercial and industrial (C&I) lighting manufacturer FSC Lighting announced several key personnel updates. Former CEO John Watkins will become executive vice president of business development, while lighting industry veteran Vincent Alonzi will assume the role of president and CEO. Alonzi has driven sales and profit growth in roles at MaxLite, Revolution Lighting Technologies, Orion Energy Systems and Grainger Industrial Supply. According to the company’s announcement, Watkins will devote the majority of its time to developing new businesses, while Alonzi will focus on expansion and new product offerings.

Former Apogee Lighting executive Jim Hunter has also joined the company as senior vice president of sales and marketing. Alongside Hunter, Ariel Devore will support new marketing efforts as the regional sales team is expanded to attract new business.
